One of the topics I get asked about almost daily is skin care. With the increased sweating from training and cardio, your complexion can become a nightmare pretty quickly. I’m writing this blog to share what has helped my skin and what works for me. Please keep in mind that you may need to see a dermatologist if your case is severe- I am definitely no expert!

Tip number 1: Wash your face! As soon as I wake up, I wash my face with a gentle cleanser, then follow up with a moisturizer containing SPF 30. Before I go to sleep, I wash my face again and apply a moisturizer. Sometimes midday as well depending on what time I train.

Tip number 2: No training in makeup! The sweating that comes with exercise also relaxes and opens up our pores. If you have layers of makeup on, you’re increasing the chances of getting a breakout. If you’re coming from work or can’t get a full cleanse in, pack makeup removing wipes and do a quick wipe down before training- that’s better than nothing!

Tip number 3: No touching! Hands off the face. Our hands have dirt, oils, and germs on them from everything we touch during the day. Ever think of what yucky stuff is crawling on your keyboard? Don’t bring that mess onto your face!

Tip number 4: No picking! So you woke up with a zit this morning. If you’re like me, the first thing you want to do is squeeze, poke and pick it. DON’T. This will only make the problem worse. Instead, hold an ice cube on it for 30 seconds at a time. I’ll do this for up to 5 minutes. Then, leave it be.

Tip number 5: Drink plenty of water! The skin is an organ, and organs need water to function at their best. Lack of hydration can cause dry, tight skin. You might add an unnecessary heavy moisturizer because of the dryness, which could result in a breakout. Drink your water for glowing, healthy skin!

Tip number 6: Use an exfoliator 1-2x per week. Find a brand that works well with your skin. I got one and have definitely noticed an improvement in both the texture and clarity.

Tip number 7: Get a professional facial. While these can be pricey, it’s your face! Maybe skip out on the expensive outfit and invest in getting a monthly or bi-monthly facial. I personally love getting a hydrafacial. It’s deep cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing and I leave feeling like I have the skin of a goddess! I try and do this once a month, but at least every 6 weeks. My challenge girls, maybe make this an “end of challenge” reward for yourself!

I think I’ve covered everything. Invest in quality products and advice from a professional if you just can’t get it taken care of on your own!
